Saved By the Belt Award

The Florida "Saved by the Belt" Award is designed to recognize individuals who have survived serious traffic crashes as a result of wearing their seat belts. By acknowledging these survivors, the award aims to raise public awareness about the life-saving importance of seat belt use. Each recipient’s story serves as a real-life testament to the critical role seat belts play in reducing the severity of injuries and preventing fatalities on our roads. The program also serves as an educational tool, reminding drivers and passengers alike of the importance of wearing seat belts every time they are in a vehicle.

The award is granted to victims of traffic crashes who were found not to be at fault and were saved from death or serious injury due to the protection provided by their seat belts. Nominations must be accompanied by the Florida (FLHSMV) traffic crash report number and details of the incident.

Upon approval, the nominating law enforcement agency will receive a recognition certificate and a commemorative pin to be publicly presented to the recipient.
