The Strategic Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.) promotes high-visibility traffic enforcement on high-crash corridors along state roads. The program’s primary goal is to reduce traffic fatalities and serious injury crashes by focusing on proactive enforcement in areas with a documented history of severe crashes. The program is currently in a pilot stage in FDOT District 1.
Enforcement details target key traffic violations, including speeding, safety belt use, and impaired driving—behaviors commonly associated with crashes on these high-risk corridors. By addressing these priority issues, S.T.E.P. aims to create safer roadways for all users and advance the vision of Target Zero—eliminating traffic fatalities and serious injuries on our roadways.
Participating agencies earn points for each eligible enforcement detail. These points can be redeemed for traffic safety equipment, such as speed radar units, portable message boards, traffic cones, and other materials designed to enhance traffic safety.
Agencies may submit activity reports for each enforcement detail using the form below. If the form does not display properly on your screen, click here for a direct link.
